The Fyffe Red Devils rushed for 286 yards that all came from the run in their dominating 45-7 win over Class 6A Scottsboro on Thursday, October 28, to close out their regular season.
On a rainy night, Logan Anderson led the Red Devils and rushed for 139 yards and four touchdowns, including an 89-yard kickoff return for a score. Fyffe scored with ease as Kyle Dukes and Anderson traded hand-offs and marched the Devils down the field as Anderson punched in the first touchdown from 9-yards out.
Scottsboro was forced to punt on their first possession. Dukes and Anderson took control of the next Devil possession, but Brody Hicks earned the second Devil touchdown from 2-yards out to take the 12-0 lead.
After a Scottsboro fumble, both teams traded punts to end the first quarter. However, Fyffe’s Anderson scored from 22-yards out to start the second quarter. Fyffe took the 18-0 lead into the break, but in the third quarter, Anderson punched in a 2-yard touchdown and a 9-yard score to stretch the Devils lead to 33-0.
Hicks started the fourth quarter with four plays to earn the Devils’ next touchdown from 3-yards out. Scottsboro strung together a scoring drive that was capped off by Keelan Alvarez for a 12-yard touchdown run to get the Wildcats on the board, but Fyffe’s Anderson broke free on the ensuing kickoff to score his 89-yard return and the final score of the game.
Kyle Dukes ran for 113 yards on 17, attempts and Hicks had nine carries for 31 yards and two touchdowns. Will Stephens recorded an interception for the Devils’ defense.
Scottsboro ended their season 3-7 under new Head Coach Cris Bell. The Red Devils head for the first round of the playoffs and host Region 5’s No. 4-seed Walter Wellborn who went 5-4 overall.
