Area Cross Country teams prepare for the Sectionals race on Thursday, October 28, to qualify for the AHSAA State Championship Race on November 6 at Moulton’s Oakville Indian Mounds Parks.
Ider High School will compete in the Class 1A-2A Section 4 race along with North Sand Mountain, Pisgah, Section, Skyline, and Woodville at Huntsville’s John Hunt Running Park.
First season Plainview races in the 3A Section 3 race with Fyffe and Geraldine at White Plains Wildcat Cross Country Trail in Anniston, Alabama. The girls’ race begins at 9:00 am, and the boys begin at 9:30 am.
Fort Payne and Scottsboro compete in the Class 6A race. Fort Payne is in Section 5 at Cullman’s St. Bernard Preparatory School, and Scottsboro is in Section 6 at Huntsville’s John Hunt Running Park.
Scottsboro hosted the Last Chance Invitational at the John R. Esslinger Trail of Champions on Thursday, October 21. Fort Payne’s Maddie Jackson and Anahi Barboza placed in the top three to push the Wildcat girls to a first-place finish. Jackson finished in second place (19:21.02) and Barboza (19:39.35) finished in third while teammates Reese McCurdy (20:35) came in eighth, and Abigail Vega (20:42) finished in ninth place.
Scottsboro’s Evan Hill continues to lead the Wildcats boys team as he finished in second place with a time of 15:23.55.
