The past two weeks for the Scottsboro Wildcats have been a positive highlight in their season as they’ve finished out their Class 6A Region 7 play with two wins in a row. Scottsboro defeated Pell City 24-19 on Friday night at Trammell Stadium to create a winning streak. The Wildcats got on the board first when Keelan Alvarez rushed in from 5-yards out to cap off an eight-play, 80-yard opening drive. Pell City answered and took the 13-7 lead in the second quarter, but Scottsboro’s Alvaro Cazorla was able to close the gap to 13-10 just before halftime with a 47-yard field goal.
After the break, Scottsboro strung together an 83-yard drive that was capped off by Alvarez’s 6-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats the 17-13 lead. The Wildcat defense stepped up, and Sam Dukes recovered a Pell City fumble that gave way to Jake Jones’ 6-yard touchdown run with 8:50 remaining in the game to give the Wildcats’ the final lead. Pell City answered with a 52-yard pass and a 3-yard touchdown run to close the gap to 24-19. Scottsboro tried to take as much time off the clock as possible, but Pell City got the ball back with 3:43 remaining. The Wildcat defense stepped up again when Thomas Stewart recovered a fumble that sealed the win for the Cats.
Jones ran for 105 yards on 28 carries and threw 5-for-7 for 62 yards, while Trey Cooper was the favorite receiver with three caught passes for 36 yards. Alvarez ran for 102 yards on 14 carries. On Friday night at Paul Benefield Stadium, the Wildcats end their season with the Fyffe Red Devils (6-1, 4-1 Class 3A Region 7).
