On October 12, 2021, the Bridgeport City Council met. Council members Michelle Willis and Aldonna Crabtree were unable to attend, but enough members were present for a quorum.
During the meeting, Mayor Hughes reappointed Terry Coffman to the Bridgeport Housing Authority Board for a five-year term. Hughes also announced that on Saturday, October 16 at 8:00 am, Family Dollar will have a ribbon-cutting and Grand Opening. A spokesperson for the store said there would be a D.J. there, the fire department, contests with give-a-ways, and drawings for the kids. The first 50 customers in the store will get a $5.00 gift card and a shopping bag. There is also a huge sale going on that day.
The Council approved the 2022 FYE Budget after its second reading. They also agreed to raise the monthly donation of $300.00 to $500.00 to the Grace Thrift Shop. Mayor Hughes praised the organization because of its generosity. He said the thrift shop serves 185 meals a day to the community and provides free clothing for children and families at the beginning of each school year.
The City is looking to create a new park with areas for campers and eventually build small cabins close to the boat dock. The project is in the planning stages, and the Council approved Bryan King, Designer with GMC, who designed the park and boat dock layout to proceed with printing and binding hard copies of the layout with print boards of the park graphics.
Finally, the Council announced a Halloween celebration on Saturday, October 30, starting at 5:30. Kids may trunk-or-treat downtown, and the City will also show a movie outdoors. Spectators may watch the movie from the bleachers or bring a chair.
