In what has become one of the biggest rivalry matchups, the Plainview Bears and Pisgah Eagles were on their way to setting an AHSAA Class 3A state record for the most points both teams scored in a game. They fell just shy of that record, but the game didn’t disappoint. The Eagles (0-2) started slow and were held scoreless in the first quarter, while the Bears (2-0) put up 16 points. QB Noah White rushed in for a 28-yard touchdown run with #11 Braiden Thomas earning the 2-point conversion. Thomas found the endzone for six points from 89-yards out and then added two more for his second 2-point conversion run. Pisgah set up their offense in the opening of the second quarter, and #36 Rhyan Barrett rushed in from 2-yards out to put the Eagles on the board. However, Thomas took away any momentum the Eagles gained as he rushed in for a 22-yard touchdown and earned his third 2-point conversion of the night. The Bears got the ball back, and #10 Andrew Hall found the endzone from 8-yards out while Thomas ran in the extra two. With the first half dwindling down, Pisgah’s #3 Mason Holcomb found #9 Parker Law for a 34-yard reception to add six to the board. The Bears took a comfortable 32-12 lead into halftime. The third quarter was slow comparative, and each team added a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. The fourth quarter was back-and-forth as each team tried to seal the win. Plainview’s White scored from 18-yards out, but the Eagles’ #7 Fox Tinker caught a 46-yard pass for a touchdown while Law added the extra two points to close the gap 46-28. With two minutes left in the game, #32 Legion McCrary closed the deficit by six as he punched in a 2-yard rushing touchdown. The game was 46-34, and it seemed as though Pisgah was trying to rally when Thomas broke free for a 55-yard rushing touchdown to drive the nail in the Eagle’s coffin. #19 Sam Crowell caught the lone pass from the Wing-T offense for the extra two points. As the Bears kicked off with one minute and some change left in the game, Pisgah’s Tinker ran back a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Bears took the victory at 54-40. The Eagles saw success passing the ball into Plainview’s secondary, earning 259 yards and rushing for 69 yards. The Bears rushed for a massive 496 yards, with Thomas leading the pack with 284 yards on 27 carries. Plainview prepares for their first region 7 game as they travel to Asbury (0-2) Friday, September 10, while Pisgah travels to region foe Falkville (2-1).
