Chloe Cunningham , Senior At North Jackson High School
When daydreaming in class, every underclassman imagines their elusive senior year; the time in their lives when the classes will be passable, the teachers easy going, and the homework nonexistent. The topic of senior year is universally relatable. Well, that is until you are an actual senior. Cast away all positive thoughts you have towards senior year. Instead, ask a senior themselves for their opinion on “the best year of high school.” You are more than likely going to be entangled in a rant about the struggle of affording a future. The passable classes will instead be replaced with ACT preparation and college preparedness. The easy-going teachers are now college advisors who constantly breathe down your neck. As for the homework, imagine an insurmountable pile of scholarship applications. The muse of your daydreams will soon become a living nightmare. However, do not be discouraged. There is some light that can be found in the dark tunnel of senior year. For example, there is no better feeling than when the approval of your future arrives as a thick package in the mail. The smile your success brings to the face of your advisor will inspire a sense of validation within you. It is during senior year that you earn the future you believe you deserve. It is all achieved through your use of hard work, perseverance, and daily mental breakdowns. No, senior year is not everything you can dream of and more, but it is worth every tear-stained pillowcase.
