Adrian Cardenas is a ninth grade student at North Jackson High School. Attending his first state Beta convention, he competed and won a state championship. Students have an opportunity to compete in different academic areas. Adrian signed up for the Spanish exam and took the test in Division I (9th and 10th grade). At the awards ceremony his name was called out as the Division I Champion.
Being the state champion has earned him a spot to compete at the National Beta Convention in Oklahoma City, OK. He is very excited about going to compete. This will be his first time to ride in a plane and his first time to travel to Oklahoma. He said he also enjoyed getting to brag to his sisters about winning first. An older sister, Lucy, had previously competed at the state level and was runner-up.
Adrian plans to begin attending Earnest Pruett Center of Technology next year and wants to specialize in the mechanic/engineering/welding field. He currently works part-time with his dad at Stevenson Tire and enjoys working with his hands and seeing how things are made.
Adrian is the son of Adrian Cardenas and Maria Ester Silva-Gomez. He is looking forward to going to the convention in June and will celebrate his birthday while he is there. He thinks (and NJHS agrees) that a national championship trophy would make the perfect present.
