Mayor Hughes Shows Appreciation
By
Sherri Blevins
At the Bridgeport City Council meeting held on Monday, September 23, Mayor Hughes expressed his appreciation for all the hard work that went into making this year’s Trail of Tears a great success. He thanked all those involved in the planning, set-up, and operation of the annual event.
On
the city’s Facebook page, other employees expressed their thoughts on the
events. The post stated, “The Trail of Tears was greater than
ever. Bridgeport has shown many times
that it truly knows how to put on incredible events like this. The City of Bridgeport would like to thank
everyone who attended the events. We
hope each of you had a wonderful time. We offer prayers for all of the bikers
for safe travels. Thanks to all who
worked behind the scenes coordinating this event, which grows every year. Thanks to Randall ‘Rip’ Gibson for stepping up
and overseeing the event and everything
leading up to it. An event of this size
doesn’t just involve a couple of weeks of preparation. You can bet plans are being put in place for
next year’s event already. Thanks to the
entire Trail of Tears Committee. And
thanks to our wonderful Bridgeport Street Department. If you haven’t noticed, it has been really hot
the past couple of weeks, but our guys never slowed down, and they worked long
hours and got the job done. Thanks to
our incredible Mayor for not only working his full-time job elsewhere, only to
turn around and put even more hours in, right alongside our street department
and working in the heat to make this the best. That man never stops. And to our City Council who also works very hard
making sure our city continues to grow and prosper and who always support this
and any other event that brings our community together. This is what it’s all
about – putting our town and our people first, taking pride in our town, and
helping to keep us always moving forward! Thanks again!!!”
During the Bridgeport City Council meeting, the
council took the following actions:
