The Section Lions took control and never relented in a 21-0 Jamboree win over Gaylesville in a half game on Thursday, August 22. The Game was part of the Cherokee County Fall Jamboree at Gaylesville High School. The Lions jumped out to an early 7-0 lead over the Tigers when Drake McCutchen raced 38 yards for a touchdown. Leo Viljanen added the first of his three PAT’s on the day. Quarterback Jace Holcomb added a 4-yard touchdown run near the end of the first quarter to stretch the Lion’s lead to 14-0. Holcomb scored again on a 3-yard run in the second quarter after connected with Dylan Rider for a 33-yard pass to set the Lions up deep in Tiger territory.
McCutchen
led the Lions with 87 yards rushing on seven carries. Holcomb ran for 28 yards on five carries and
Jr. Walker had 20 yards on four carries.
Holcomb went 1-of-3 for 33 yards passing. This win over Gaylesville is a definite
positive, but Section first-year Head Coach Chris Hammon is aware that more
difficult challenges lie ahead for his young team.
“It was good to start off with some confidence and momentum,” said Hammon. “Hopefully we can build from it.”
