Bridgeport, AL – The 2024 North Jackson Homecoming Parade proved to be a resounding success, thanks to the tremendous support and participation from local schools and community members. This year’s parade saw participation from Hollywood Elementary, Bridgeport Elementary and Middle Schools, Stevenson Elementary and Middle Schools, and North Jackson High School (NJHS). The Student Government Association (SGA) of NJHS, which spearheaded the event, extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this celebration both memorable and budget-conscious.
The City of Bridgeport played host to what has become the biggest parade in the school’s history, with 45 different “entries” joining in to showcase school spirit. From colorful floats to enthusiastic participants, the streets were filled with excitement.
A special shout-out was given to NJHS alumna Lucy Alred, owner of Lucy’s Lettering, for creating the vibrant posters that adorned the parade vehicles. Lucy’s artistic touch added a professional and personal flair to the day.
Volunteer judges for the NJHS student body floats played a pivotal role in the event’s success. These community leaders—Jonathan Colvin of the Jackson County Board of Education, Crystal McCrary from the Michael Scott Learning Center, Lisa Parton of First Jackson Bank, and Denese Reed from Cadence Bank—lent their expertise to ensure fair and fun float judging.
Another key contributor was Kylie Batey, NJHS Special Education teacher, who volunteered as the photographer and editor for photos of the homecoming attendants and their families. Batey’s keen eye and skill provided beautiful, lasting memories for all who attended.
Floral arrangements for boutonnières, corsages, and attendants’ bouquets were generously donated by Lydia’s Lavender Lane, a new business in South Pittsburg. Owner Taylor Gunter, a former student of Mrs. Stivers at NSM, graciously provided the flowers that brightened the celebration.
Decorations, including a stunning balloon arch and towers, were courtesy of Ansley Tucker from Marion County’s Ansley Beth Balloon Company. These eye-catching elements not only enhanced the homecoming festivities but will also be featured during the North Jackson Cheerleaders Spear-It Showcase this weekend.
The homecoming dance that followed was a hit, thanks to the musical talents of Laura and Jeremy Rowe from Rock’n’Rowe DJing and Events. Their music and lighting set the perfect atmosphere for a night of dancing and celebration, and the students couldn’t have been happier.
Finally, the Stevenson Police Department, represented by Officer KK Smith, ensured that the homecoming dance remained safe and secure, allowing students to enjoy their night without worry.
SGA’s role in organizing the event was pivotal, as they worked within a budget generated through the sales of North Jackson merchandise at football games and the “slushie shop,” which operates during school hours. Their dedication helped create a memorable experience for students while keeping costs in check.
In summing up the event, the NJHS Student Government Association expressed their gratitude to all the individuals, businesses, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this year’s homecoming a tremendous success. “It takes everyone inside NJ and many outside to make the parts of homecoming fit as one. 2024 was a success!”
