During the Jackson County Commission’s June 10, 2024 meeting, district leaders presented and approved the 2024 Road Selections. Each commissioner is allotted a certain number of miles to pave each year, bringing some roads to the top of their priority list. Earlier in the year, the county engineer and Public Works Department presented the commission with their suggested roads from “worst” to “best” in terms of work needed. Commissioner Chris Gulley said District 1 will see paving on 1.2 miles of County Road 133 in Stevenson, 1.3 miles of County 326 in Flat Rock, .6 miles on Janelle Street in Bridgeport, and 3/10 of a mile on Iris Lane in Bridgeport. Gulley said he tried to divide the work evenly between mountain and valley roads. District 2 Commissioner Paul Kennamer announced that 2.5 miles on County Road 54 in the Stevenson area would be paved. District 3 Commissioner AJ Buckner was not present at the meeting, but it was announced that his district will see 3 miles paved from HWY 40 at Polymer to County Road 322. District 4 Commissioner Kevin McBride said he selected County Road 103 and Parnell Circle, along with a portion of County Road 175, breaking up a 5-mile stretch into sections to be paved. It was not announced at this meeting when the specific paving jobs will each start.
The commission also:
approved the agenda for the June 10 meeting.
approved the purchase of five 30-cubic foot rolloff dumpsters and three 40-cubic yard rolloff dumpsters at a total of $46,190 for the Solid Waste Department.
