On April 23, 2024, students in Jackson County had the opportunity to learn about various careers in Cybersecurity and IT. Ms. Dana Keller, Northeast Alabama Community College Computer Science Instructor, organized the summit held at the Kevin Dukes Career and Innovation Academy. Students heard from several company representatives that needed workers skilled in Cybersecurity and Information Technology. Keller said she held the summit because she was aware that many students didn’t realize there is a huge variety of areas available to specialize in and that some part of this field is needed in almost every business or occupation. Google Representatives Bryon Miller with Northeast Alabama Community College, Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, Farmers Telecommunications Cooperative Representatives, David Blevins with Life Care Centers of America, and Ken Mitchell with Yellowbox Solutions gave presentations to the students explaining the various career options. NACC President Dr. David Campbell stated, “Our area people have the skills and capacities to pursue these opportunities in computer science and cybersecurity. They just need to know more about what is out there for careers in these fields. The sky is not even the limit for these careers, as they say in the space industry with Google and the other advanced companies that we have here and in nearby Huntsville!”
