By Cinthia Rico STEVENSON – The North Jackson softball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to edge Scottsboro 9-8 in Friday’s (Mar. 29) matchup.
Darcy McClendon led North Jackson in the winning circle, allowing 13 hits and eight runs over seven innings while striking out five.
The Lady Chiefs got off to a strong start with Peyton Malley, who tripled and then stole home at the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the second, Haley Eldridge scored on a sacrificed bump, Allison Ferguson plated home on an error, and Kinley Burton scored on a Benson groundout for a 6-0 advantage.
The Lady Wildcats got on board in the third when Austin McNeese homer on a line drive, bringing Austa Crocker home to cut the score to 6-2.
Scottsboro rallied in the top of the sixth with two singles and a fly ball, narrowing the gap to one. In the seventh, Matayo scored on a Shila Watkins single to tie the game at 6.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead late in the inning with a Watkins and Ali Jones run, making it 8-6. North Jackson reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the seventh after Avery Wynne scored, McClendon singled, and Eldridge doubled for a 9-8 final.
Jayda Matayo began the game for Scottsboro, giving up three hits and four runs, striking out two and walking one. Anna Clair Crocker entered the circle in relief, surrendering nine hits and five runs while stringing out three and walking one.
North Jackson 12, Scottsboro 3
SCOTTSBORO – The Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Chiefs on Saturday for a rematch at Scottsboro High School, where North Jackson overpowered the Wildcats 12-3.
Darcy McClendon led the Chiefs in the winning circle, allowing four hits and three runs over five innings while striking out six.
McClendon also collected four hits in four at-bats.
North Jackson got off to a good start, tallying four runs in the top of the second with a Malley double, a McClendon single, and a Ferguson single.
Adding three more runs in the third, the Chiefs held a 7-0 lead before the Wildcats caught a break in the bottom of the fifth. A Grider, K Horan, and M Perkins each plated home, cutting the score to 7-3.
North Jackson sealed their win with five runs in the sixth behind a Benson double, a Malley triple, and a McClendon single for a 12-3 final.
Leading the way for Scottsboro on the mound was Anna Clair Crocker, who gave up nine hits and nine runs in four and a third innings while striking out three and walking one.
Morgan Perkins, who went 2-for-3, led the Wildcats with two runs. For Scottsboro, Perkins and Austin McNeece both had two hits.
