On Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at the Scottsboro City Council Work Session, Scottsboro Police Officer Parker Henegar was honored with the Life Saving Award. According to Officer Ryan Putman of the Scottsboro Police Department (SPD), on Dec. 1, 2023, at 1:42 a.m., SPD Officers were dispatched to the Hwy 72 overpass over S. Broad Street in reference to a suicidal person. Officer Parker Henegar arrived on the scene and immediately encountered a distraught female hanging over the edge of the bridge 50 feet above the street. She was threatening to let go of the railing and fall to the roadway below. Officer Henegar quickly grabbed hold of the female and was able to pull her back over the concrete railing despite her efforts to free herself from his grasp. After pulling her to safety, Officer Henegar listened to and consoled the frantic female, finally convincing her to voluntarily seek medical attention. His swift actions and ability to communicate with the troubled female most certainly saved her life. Officer Parker Henegar demonstrated courage, professionalism, and compassion with his immediate actions and saved a life that may have otherwise perished. The Life Saver Award given by the Scottsboro City Council recognizes officers who have acted with bravery and selflessness to save someone’s life. The Life Saver Award recipients are recognized for their quick thinking, decisive actions, and unwavering commitment to serving and protecting their community. It is a testament to the bravery and dedication of our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line daily to keep others safe.
