I remember as a child, singing the song, “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”. Hank Snow, the great country singer recorded a song titled, “Invisible Hands” and for years AllState advertisements have stated, “You’re in good hands with AllState.” What can we find in the Bible about the hand of God?
After giving the ten commandments to the Children of Israel Moses said in Deuteronomy 5:15, “15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.”
In Joshua Chapter 4, Israel had come down to the Jordan River and did not how they would get across, but God drew back the waters and commanded the people to get twelve stones and to place those stones on the other side of Jordan after they had crossed, explaining in Joshua 4:21-24 “21 … When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.”
Psalm 89:13 records, “13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.” And Psalm 98:1 says, “98 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.”
Isaiah 59:1-2 says, “1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:” 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
And in the New Testament, St. John 10:27-30 says, “27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 9 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
From these scriptures, the conclusion can be drawn that God’s hand is mighty and that when his hand is upon us for good we have nothing to fear.
