The Jackson County Board of Education approved numerous personnel items at its April 15 meeting. To open, Board President Chad Gorham asked those in attendance to take a moment of silence as they reflect on the nation, district, and decisions of the board.
Gorham said while this time of year brings the accomplishment of finishing another school year, it also brings the annual decisions of non-renewals and pink slips.
“Even though we’re happy it’s spring, this is the time of year we really don’t like but it’s part of the process, and hopefully some of the folks who are not non-renewed this spring will be able to join us in the fall possibly in the same positions or it would somewhere else in our school district,” Gorham said.
Gorham said is “never fun” for the board to ever have to non-renew and pink slip employees, but it’s “happening in every system across the state, so we’re not the lone rangers in that.”
The board approved the following items on its agenda:
General Business
- approved a motion for any corrections, additions, or deletions to the March 13, 2024, board meeting and work session minutes.
- approved a motion to approve the bid for a walk-in cooler/freezer combination to Bresco in the amount of $131,860.00
- approved a motion to approve a contract between the Jackson County Board of Education and Bridgeport Elementary School to provide student transportation services for a Bridgeport Elementary student.
- approved a motion to approve the purchase of 8 SAF-T-Liner C2311TS School buses in the amount of $1,102,784.00.
- approved a motion to approve the purchase of math instructional supplies from Pearson K12 Learning in the amount of $273,927.50.
- approved a motion to approve the purchase of math and reading K-12 instructional software from Curriculum Associates in the amount of $685,174.84.
- approved a motion to approve the bid awarded to P&C Construction for restroom projects (Pisgah High School, Section High School, and Woodville High School), not to exceed $1,228,522.00.
Resignations
- approved a motion to accept the resignation of Naketa Randolph, a county-wide special education aide, effective May 31, 2024.
- approved a motion to accept the resignation of Cheyenne Reddit, a county-wide special education aide, effective May 31, 2024.
- approved a motion to accept the resignation of Dana McAllister, a 50% elementary teacher at Stevenson Middle School, effective April 12, 2024.
- approved a motion to approve the resignation of Melissa Cardenas, a county-wide EL bilingual paraprofessional, effective March 29, 2024.
- approved a motion to approve the resignation of Kristina Matthews, a county-wide special education aide, effective March 20, 2024.
- approved a motion to approve the resignation of Dionne Sartin, a teacher at Stevenson Middle School, effective May 29, 2024, and to approve the Resignation and Settlement Agreement dated April 10, 2024.
Non-Renewals – Certified
- approved a motion to non-renew the following certified personnel effective May 31, 2024.

- approved a motion to non-renew the following non-certified personnel effective May 31, 2024.
Contracts
- approved a motion to approve a contract between the Jackson County Board of Education and Michael Muratet as a secondary science teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year (29 days) effective April 16, 2024.
- approved a motion to approve the following Non-Probationary Principal contracts effective July 1, 2024: Blake Wigley, Principal at Section High School and Layton Holman, Principal at Woodville High School
Transfers
- approved a motion to transfer Tammy Guess from a 9-month county-wide instructional coach to a 10-month county-wide math coach (initially located at Stevenson Middle School), effective July 22, 2024.
- approved a motion to transfer Elizabeth Hollaway from a 9-month teacher at Stevenson Middle School to a 10-month county-wide academic achievement specialist, effective July 22, 2024.
